For big kids

Rowndy.

Make words from the centre out. The catch: every letter you pick turns the ring beyond it, so each move changes what you can reach next.

The demo walks you through your first two words. It takes about a minute.

How it works

  1. Start in the middle

Every word begins with the centre letter. Around it sit four rings of 6, 10, 14 and 18 letters.

  2. Step outwards

Each next letter must touch the one you’re on: its neighbour in the same ring, or a touching letter in the next ring out. You can take more than one letter from a ring, but never step back in.

  3. Watch the rings move

Every letter you pick turns or shuffles the next ring out, so plan a move ahead.

    O
    shuffles the next ring
    A E I U
    turn it two places
    B C D…
    consonants turn it one place
    A–L
    turn clockwise; M–Z anticlockwise
  4. Play 8 words

After each word a new letter takes the centre and the rings reshuffle. Find the bonus word for 20 extra.

Scoring

  • Each letter scores its ring number, 1 to 4.
  • Reach the outer ring for 5 more.
  • Each round hides a bonus word worth 20. Its first and last letters are shown above the board.
  • Undo costs 1 point a letter. Clearing a word costs 5.
  • A word that isn’t in the list costs what it would have scored.
  • 8 words make a game. After each one a new letter takes the centre and the rings reshuffle.

Rowndy Kids

A smaller board with bigger letters, two rings instead of four, five words a game and no points lost for a wrong guess. Made for younger players, and it collects nothing.
