Make words from the centre outwards. Every word starts with the centre letter. From there, step to a letter that touches the one you’re on: its neighbour in the same ring, or a touching letter in the next ring out. You can never step back in.
Every pick moves the next ring
- O
- shuffles the next ring
- A E I U
- turn it two places
- B C D…
- consonants turn it one place
- A–L
- turn clockwise; M–Z anticlockwise
Hover or focus a letter and the ring it would move is dashed; the line under the board says exactly what it will do.
Scoring
- Each letter scores its ring number, 1 to 4.
- Reach the outer ring for 5 more.
- Each round hides a bonus word worth 20. Its first and last letters are shown above the board.
- Undo costs 1 point a letter. Clearing a word costs 5.
- A word that isn’t in the list costs what it would have scored.
- 8 words make a game. After each one a new letter takes the centre and the rings reshuffle.
Tips
- The count above the board is exact: every word you can still make from here.
- Plan the turns. A vowel that turns the next ring two places can bring the letter you need within reach.
- Keyboard: type a letter to pick it (or Tab or the arrow keys to a letter and press Space), Enter plays, Backspace undoes, Escape clears, ? opens this panel. See accessibility for screen readers and reduced motion.
- New to it? Try the demo: it walks you through two words.
